Saving Stunned Sea Turtles

People in Texas have been struggling to stay warm, and find clean water, after a polar vortex swept icy temperatures into the area. Sea turtles have also been shocked by the unusual weather. Volunteers on South Padre Island, have rescued nearly 5000 turtles, who can’t move in cold water. One turtle is 400 pounds, and 150 years-old!

Eagles all over North America are busy with their nests, and some have laid eggs. Eagle pairs will add to the same nest year after year, building them up to 8 feet deep and 9 feet wide! Happy World Whale Day! Whales are mammals that live in the ocean. They range in size from the 8-foot dwarf sperm whale, to the 98-foot blue whale, the largest creature that ever lived! Whales are endangered. Some species were nearly hunted to extinction. Whale songs can travel thousands of miles through the water!

Impressive Opening

An Ontario man set a messy world record, by opening beverage cans. Chucky Mady didn’t just pop the tab. He ripped the whole top of the can off, with his teeth! He opened 24 cans in 1 minute, spraying soda everywhere in the process. The hardest part, was not cutting his mouth on the metal.

Rabbit Island Residencies

Rabbit Island is a 91-acre haven for wildlife, in Michigan’s Lake Superior. It can also be a temporary retreat for 3 lucky artists. Although the land is undeveloped, the Rabbit Island Foundation is offering 3-week residencies, for artists who are inspired by nature, and don’t mind roughing it. They’ll even pay you $3200 for supplies.

Today is World Pangolin Day! Pangolins live in Asia and Africa. They are the only mammal with scales. The nocturnal animals can have tongues that are longer than their bodies! They curl into balls for protection, but it doesn’t work against humans. Pangolins are endangered, and are the most smuggled animal in the world.

Hoppy to See You

A hospital in Victoria Australia, got a surprise inspection from a furry visitor. A wallaby hopped through the automatic doors, and briefly explored the waiting area, before leaving. The same hospital was visited by a koala, nicknamed Blinky Bill, in 20 15. Wallaby or koala visitors would be a sure way, to cheer up any patient.
