The largest bird that ever lived, has just been identified. A type of elephant bird, called Vorombe titan, was nearly 10 feet tall and weighed about 1900 pounds! They lived on Madagascar, but probably went extinct when prehistoric humans settled there, 1000 years ago. The flightless birds shared the island with giant lemurs and hippopotamuses.

Mountain goats are being removed from Olympic National Park in Washington. The goats have become more aggressive, because they are addicted to human urine. People pee around the park, especially at campsites, and goats are attracted to the salt and minerals. The goats will be airlifted to forests in the Cascade mountains.

A newly discovered dinosaur has been named Ledumahadi mafube, which means “giant thunderclap at dawn.” The first bones were discovered in South Africa in 1990, and it’s taken 28 years to find the rest! This sauropod was an early Jurassic cousin of the brontosaurus. It was a huge herbivore that had grasping hands to grab limbs.

An injured box turtle at the Maryland Zoo has a cool way to get around. His shell was fractured, and it needed to be stabilized after surgery so that it could heal. So the veterinarians gave him a LEGO wheelchair! Once his shell is fused back together, he’ll be released into the wild again.
