Throw Me a High Five

Today is High Five Day, but COVID isn’t gone yet, so wash your hands after high-fiving anyone. It’s safe to give your pets a high five, but can you think of another way to congratulate humans? Maybe you can slap your own hand, and pretend to toss it to them! Try it and see.

Respect the Bean

Don’t diss your vegetables. It’s Lima Bean Respect Day, and those tiny packages hold protein, iron, magnesium, potassium, and zinc. After finishing your lima beans, treat yourself to some unusual cake. It’s Pineapple Upside Down Cake Day. You line the pan with pineapple rings, so they’re on top when you remove the cake.

Skydiving Into the Record Books

A group of skydivers over the age of 60, broke 2 world records in California. 101 jumpers linked together in a snowflake formation in mid-air, which beat the previous record by 26 people. The next day, 95 skydivers over 60 completed a sequential formation, which requires changing formations during freefall. That’s an impressive feat!

So Many Many Many Flowers

Flowers in the desert, need just the right conditions to bloom. During a drought, seeds can lie dormant for years. When rain finally comes, they might all sprout at once in a superbloom. Recent rains have triggered superblooms all over Southern California. The expanses of colorful flowers are big enough, to be seen from space!

A Plasma Tornado Spun On the Sun

Last month, Andrew McCarthy captured an amazing video of the Sun. Astrophotography is becoming more popular, as amateur astronomers use the advancements in telescopes and cameras, to their advantage. Andrew filmed a giant tornado of plasma, as tall as 14 Earths! It was dropping blobs the size of the Moon back onto its surface.

Air Out Your Clothes

Today is Bicycle Day. Give your bike a tune-up, and go for a ride. Don’t forget your helmet! It’s also Garlic Day. Eat a loaf of garlic bread and celebrate your pungent breath! Then get some fresh air, by hanging clothes to dry on a clothesline. It’s Hanging Out Day!

Banana Day is a spring tradition at many universities, featuring everything from races to recipes. Everyone can celebrate the perfectly packaged fruit, which is actually a berry! Bananas are a good source of potassium, and taste great in bread, dipped in chocolate, or even on pizza. Bananas grow sweeter and healthier, as they ripen.
