Keep Fighting Racism

Today is Martin Luther King Jr Day. Dr King was a minister, activist, Nobel Peace Prize winner, and leader of the African-American Civil Rights Movement. He used non-violent civil disobedience, marches and sit-ins to try to create racial equality in the United States. He was assassinated in 1968, but still inspires us to fight racism.

What a Talented Doggie!

A German man and his dog set a world record, by jumping rope. Wolgang Lauenburger taught his dog, Balu, to skip rope on his hind legs. Jumping together, they completed 32 skips in 30 seconds. Wolfgang was in charge of twirling the rope, since he has longer arms.

Sorry, I’m a Slow Reader

An overdue book was returned to a library in England, only 42 years late. The book, called “Knight’s Fee,” came back with a note apologizing profusely, explaining the book had been found, while cleaning their parents’ home. The book had been due back in 19 81. Thankfully, the library doesn’t charge late fees.

The Best Day for Snow Is Snow Day

Will you have snow today, for World Snow Day? Study a snowflake closely. Build a snowman, or have a snowball fight. Fresh snow is the best for making snow angels, but be sure to catch a snowflake on your tongue, as it’s coming down! Mix maple syrup into clean snow for a tasty treat.

Bagels and Booch

Today is Bagel Day. The dense and chewy bread can be toasted, and topped with anything you like! Enjoy it with some booch, for Kombucha Day. The fermented drink is made from tea, and contains billions of probiotics, just like yogurt. You can brew your own kombucha, and flavor it with your favorite fruits.

A Pothole Full of Ice Cream

Hooray, it’s that day. What day? Hat Day. Hats can keep you warm, make you look dressed-up, or be fun. Wear different hats all day long! It’s also Pothole Day. See who can find the biggest hole in the road! Since it’s Strawberry Ice Cream Day too, the prize is ice cream for everyone!

Goldfish Saved From Hungry Gull

Animal rescuers in Guernsey, were called to rescue a fish. A very large goldfish had been left in a bucket, and was being attacked by a seagull. Luckily, it was too big for the seagull to eat. Rescuers are letting the goldfish, nicknamed Captain Birdseye, recover from his injuries, before finding him a home.

Do Not Disturb

When bears hibernate during the winter, they don’t like to be disturbed. But what do you do, if a bear decides to hibernate at your house? A family in Connecticut discovered a black bear sleeping the winter away, under their deck. Wildlife authorities said it was best, to simply leave the bear alone.

Fly to Vegas for Kittens

The Las Vegas Animal Foundation, took in 3 abandoned newborn kittens. They named them Spirit, Delta, and Frontier, which are also the names of popular airlines. Frontier Airlines decided to give travel vouchers worth $500, to anyone adopting the kittens, because they were so happy to have a kitten named after them.

A Cubby for Kites

Today is Organize Your Home Day, so put your house in order. Organize all your craft supplies, then make a kite to celebrate International Kite Day. Uttarayan is a huge kite festival in Ahmedabad India. They hold kite fights, where you try and cut the other person’s strings! I’d rather just watch mine fly.
