Today is Monkey Day! It started as a joke when a college student wrote “Monkey Day” on his friend’s calendar, but it’s now celebrated around the world. Did you know, almost all monkeys have tails? The smallest monkeys are Pygmy marmosets, at only 4.6 inches long! Jump around like a monkey today, and eat bananas!

The Sunday River ski resort in Maine, was overrun with Santas last weekend. More than 300 people dressed in Santa Claus suits hit the slopes on skis and snowboards, ringing sleigh bells and ho-ho-ho-ing. The annual fund-raising event, raises money for River Fund Maine, a non-profit that works with youth education and the outdoors.

A girl in California named Madeline, wrote a letter to officials, asking for permission to own a special pet. Instead of a dog license, she wanted a license to keep a unicorn in her backyard. Los Angeles County issued the license, with regulations that it needed to have enough sunlight, moonbeams, rainbows, and watermelon.

Nazca lines are massive drawings in the desert in Peru. The geoglyphs are so huge that you can only properly see the patterns from the air, so many had remained unseen. Now archaeologists have discovered even more geoglyphs. The Paracas and Topara people created the giant pictures on hillsides, more than 2200 years ago!

Horses have lived on Earth at least 50,000,000 years. Humans domesticated them, for transportation, farming, and racing, but there are still wild horses. Horses can run up to 55 miles-per-hour! The tallest horse ever, Sampson, was 7-foot-2-inches tall. Thumbelina, the world’s smallest horse, was only 17 inches tall! Happy Day Of The Horse!

Today is Violin Day, the first instrument that many kids learn to play. If your school has a strings program, be sure to sign up! You can always listen to classical, bluegrass, or Irish music to hear some fantastic violin playing! Listen with a cup of hot chocolate, because it’s also National Cocoa Day!

Last March, students from Central Falls Rhode Island, made a miniboat. They named it Inspiration, added GPS trackers, included information about the schools that helped build it, and launched it into the Atlantic Ocean. 10 months later, the boat was found on a beach in England! British students had a videochat with the ship-builders.

On Sunday, NASA’s Orion spacecraft, completed its Artemis 1 mission. The space capsule splashed down in the Pacific Ocean, to finish its 25-day journey around the Moon. This mission was an unmanned test flight, and the capsule landed undamaged. The Artemis program aims to return humans to the Moon in a few years.

The 2022 Comedy Wildlife Photography Award winners have been chosen. The grand prize winner, is a photo of a lion cub, losing its grip on a tree trunk. Set your mobile’s ring-tone, to old phone, so you’ll ding-a-ling when someone calls you. It’s also Ambrosia Day. The sweet salad has coconut, fruit, marshmallows, and whipped cream!
