Eat the Seeds

It’s Pumpkin Seed Day, so it’s the perfect time to practice your pumpkin-carving skills, the roast the seeds. Sprinkle them with salt, or cinnamon and sugar. Your Jack-o’-lantern will be moldy by Halloween, so you’ll have to carve another one later in the month. You’ll get more pumpkin seeds, to try another recipe!

Great Pumpkins Everywhere

A man in New York already has his pumpkin for Halloween. Scott Andrusz set a new national record, by growing an enormous gourd weighing 2,554 pounds! The world record is 2,702 pounds, set last year in Italy. A pumpkin in Minnesota might break both records when it gets weighed next week, so stay tuned.

Trick-or-Treat On the Street

California seems to have lots of trucks full of food, that crash on the highways. Last month it was grapes and tomatoes. This month, a truck full of candy spilled its load all over the road. No one was injured, but Halloween came early, for whoever had to clean up the mess.

Big Dogs Helping Big Cats

Cheetahs in India, are getting a helping hand from dogs. Cheetahs have been extinct in India for 70 years, but 8 cheetahs were recently relocated to the Kuno National Park. To protect the big cats from poachers, who might illegally hunt them, 6 specially-trained German shepherds will patrol the park. Nobody gets past them!

Dragonfly Mission to Titan

NASA is making plans to send a robotic rotocraft, to explore Saturn’s largest moon, Titan. The Dragonfly mission will launch in 20 27, although the craft will not reach Titan until 20 34. The lander will set down in the Shangri-la dune field, where it’s dry and desert-like. It does sometimes rain liquid methane.

T is for Tiger Eating a Taco

Let’s talk oh-bout what’s for dinner. Have a taco dinner party, because it’s Taco Day! It’s also World Animal Day, so invite all your animal friends. Can you name an animal that starts with each letter of the alphabet? B is for Bobcat, S is for Squid, and W is for Wombat. Your turn!

A Heavy Ride

Balancing on a one-wheeled unicycle seems tricky. Lifting weights is also tough. But a Scottish man broke a world record, by lifting a 150-pound barbell over his head, while riding a unicycle. Josh Auld, a professional unicycler, and coach for the Ninja Warrior TV show, combined his 2 favorite hobbies into one impressive feat.

Moose On the Loose

A daycare in Bangor Maine, had an unexpected furry visitor last week. A great big moose wandered up to the Summit Learning Center, and looked through the window at the children. The kids were excited to see the moose up close. Game wardens made sure the moose got back home safely.
