New York’s Seneca Park Zoo, welcomed 2 baby Masai giraffes this year! First-time Mama Kipenzi’s baby was born Tuesday, and they are both doing well. Mother Iggy had the other baby, named Olmstead, in May. Masai giraffes can grow to be close to 20 feet tall. They are found mainly in Kenya and Tanzania.
Firefighters in Arkansas, tackled an unusual problem. They had to remove a kitten, from an ATM. Was the kitten trying to steal money from the machine? We’ll never know, but the kitten was hungry and cranky when they removed him. He was taken to an animal shelter to recover, and named Cash.
A meteorite nicknamed Black Beauty, was found in the Sahara desert 11 years ago. It formed over 4,000,000,000 years ago, on the planet Mars, and contains traces of water. Now, Artificial Intelligence has traced the exact location, where the meteorite was formed. It came from a crater in the Terra Cimmeria-Sirenum region on Mars.
Today is Shark Awareness Day. There are over 400 species of sharks, from the 7-inch dwarf lanternshark, to the 60-foot whale shark. Only 34 shark species have ever made a rare attack on a human, but humans kill over 100,000,000 sharks per year. You’re actually 20 times more likely to get killed by a cow, than a shark!

Measure the length of your cheesey noodles, since today is also Mac And Cheese Day. Then try to measure a wet dog with your cheese-covered ruler. That’ll cause real pandemonium!
16-year-old Corion Evans, is an incredible hero. A car drove off a boat ramp, leaving its 3 passengers stranded on the roof in the middle of a river. Corion, a strong swimmer, swam out and rescued them. A police officer who tried to help, ended up swallowing water, so Corion rescued him as well.
Scientists were excited, to find the world’s oldest brain. The brains and nerves were still preserved, in Stanleycaris herpix fossils found in Canada. The 8-inch-long prawn had 3 eyes, and swam in Cambrian oceans 500,000,000 years ago. They had claws with spines, circular jaws lined with teeth, and swim flaps lining its flexible body.
July’s full moon, is called the Buck Moon. It’s also a supermoon, which occurs when a full moon coincides with the moon’s perigee. The perigee is the point when the moon’s orbit brings it closest to Earth. Since it is closer than normal, it makes the moon look huge! Look for it tomorrow night.
