It’s Black Bear Day!

Did you know, not all black bears, are black? They can be shades of blue-grey, cinnamon, or even white! If you live near woods in North America, you might spot one raiding a bird feeder, rummaging through trash cans, or opening car doors to find a snack. Loud noises will usually scare them away.

Treasure the Earth

Today is World Environment Day. Protecting the environment is everyone’s job. Recycle, leave natural habitats for animals,don’t litter, and don’t pollute the water. Then start writing the lawmakers of your country, and demand that they force corporations to do the same. No one should be allowed to pollute our beautiful planet!

Throw a meatless patty on the grill. It’s Veggie Burger Day! You can try an Impossible Burger at a restaurant if you want something that tastes like meat. It’s also Hot Air Balloon Day. You can make your own hot air balloon, take a ride, or just watch them float through the sky!

What a Pretty Pothole

Potholes in the road, are dangerous eyesores. French artist Ememem, is beautifying European cities like Paris, by filling the potholes with art. He creates mosaics out of colorful tiles, in a technique he calls flacking. It’s art you’re allowed to walk on. Road repairs have never looked so lovely!

Magnetic Marvel

Neutron stars are the collapsed cores of massive stars, at least 10 times bigger than the Sun. Magnetars are a very rare type of neutron star. Astronomers may have identified a 25th magnetar, with a magnetic field 1000 times stronger than a neutron star, and a quadrillion times more powerful than Earth’s!

Corgi Cuties

Today is Corgi Day. The little dog with the short legs, is Queen Elizabeth’s favorite. She’s had more than 30 corgis during her 95 years. Do you remember the Million Corg March? Hundreds of adorable short-legged corgis wandered around Washington DC dressed in costumes, from coffee cups to crowns. I hope they have another one.

Share Some Cheese With Kitty

Here kitty-kitty-kitty. Come get a hug! It’s Hug Your Cat Day, so hold your head close, and listen to your furball’s rumbling purr. It’s also Cheese Day. Be adventurous, and try some new varieties, like chocolate cheese! You could even look up a recipe, and try making your own cheese, like fresh mozzarella.

Perfectly Glazed Doughnuts

Roll out of bed, for Doughnut Day! Some stores, like Krispy Kreme and Duck Donuts are giving away free doughnuts, while other places like Dunkin’, will give you a doughnut if you buy a drink. Check your favorite doughnut shop for deals. Don’t forget, Krispy Kreme gives vaccinated customers a free doughnut every day!

Skedaddle Mister Snake

The Australian airline Qantas, stores a fleet of aircraft in California’s Mojave Desert. The area is home to venomous rattlesnakes that like to curl up in the wheels, so a wheel whacker is part of each plane’s engineering kit. It’s basically a broom handle, used to scare snakes and scorpions out of the wheels.
