A Long Wait for the Stork to Come

For the first time in 600 years, wild storks have had babies in England! Over the last 3 years, the White Stork Project has released storks from Poland and France, into a stork conservation area. Now, there are 3 breeding pairs who have laid eggs, and the chicks have been hatching. The storks are back to stay!

Here’s a list of things to find: a snail, 2 spoons, a rock, an airplane, 5 ants, a paintbrush and tape. It’s also Brother’s Day. Be nice to your brothers, and do something together besides fight!

Robotic Dog Herds Sheep

Some sheep farms in New Zealand, are going high-tech. They are using a robotic dog, named Spot, to herd sheep! The robot can be controlled remotely, through mountains and difficult terrain. During tests, the sheep followed directions from the robot dog just fine, even though it has no head, tail, or fur!

Giving the Gift of Art

For Chelsea Phaire’s 10th birthday, she got what she’d been wishing for since she was 7. She started Chelsea’s Charity. She asked people to donate art supplies instead of birthday presents, so she could give them to kids in homeless shelters and foster homes. She has donated over 1500 art kits, to kids in need!

Wear the Cap, Donate the Gown

Nathaniel Moore recently graduated from university, and he realized his graduation gown could be put to good use in a hospital. Sometimes healthcare workers have had to use trash bags, when they ran out of hospital gowns. Nathaniel started Gowns 4 Good, and has collected nearly 10,000 graduation gowns so far, to donate to hospitals!

Be Kind to Turtles

Today is Turtle Day. Have you ever spotted a turtle trying to cross a road? You can help him across, but make sure to follow the direction he was headed! Always leave turtles in the wild. A box turtle’s lifespan is around 40 years, but some tortoises can live more than 100 years!

Bats on the Radar

Meteorologist Chris Suchan, shared some unusual weather radar footage. A large swarm of bats in Texas, had gotten caught up in a thunderstorm. The millions of Mexican free-tailed bats, were pushed by strong gusts of wind. On the weather map, it looked like 2 storms colliding, until the bats dispersed into a ring.

Robotics Team Builds a Ventilator

An all-girls robotics team called the Afghan Dreamers, is using old car parts to build a hand-operated ventilator, which is a machine that help patients breathe. The teenagers live in Afghanistan, which has only about 200 ventilators in the whole country. Once they build a prototype, the machines can be mass-produced, to save coronavirus patients.
