3000 passengers on a luxury cruise changed their plans because of Hurricane Dorian. The hurricane hit the Bahamas, which was supposed to be the Celebrity Equinox’s last stop. The crew and guests turned their trip into a humanitarian mission, delivering food and water to hurricane victims. Other fleets of cruise ships are also helping survivors.

A student pilot in Australia had an exciting first lesson. His instructor fell unconscious, and he had to take over. Max Sylvester contacted the control tower, who talked him through an emergency landing. He landed the plane perfectly! His flawless first landing will be hard to top on his second lesson!

Trees are important to our atmosphere, and any way to use less wood, saves trees. Wooden shipping pallets use up 200,000,000 trees a year. A Dutch company called CocoPallet, is making pallets out of recycled coconut husks! The shells are hard, fire resistant, and abundant in Asia, where 1,000,000,000 pallets are used every year.

LEGO bricks might feel like Braille, with their raised dots, but the instruction manuals are no help to blind people. Matthew Shifrin has been translating manuals into Braille and audio instructions on his website, LEGO for the Blind. Now, the LEGO Group agreed to develop Matthew’s ideas, to launch more audio and braille manuals!

The Vollebak company is making t-shirts out of wood pulp, printed with ink made from algae. They’re made with recycled water, and the eucalyptus, beech, and spruce trees used to make the yarn, are sustainably sourced. At the end of the Plant and Algae T-Shirt’s lifespan, you compost it by burying it!
