Astronomers have discovered a planet that absorbs almost all light that hits it. The planet, named WASP-104b, is known as a hot Jupiter planet: gas planets around the same mass as Jupiter that orbit close to their star. WASP-104b is so close, its orbit takes only 1.75 days! That means a year is less than 2 days long!

1,726 people came together to form the largest human recycling logo ever in Chennai India. They wore green shirts and assembled themselves into the familiar triangle of arrows, promoting the “Reduce, Reuse, Recycle” motto. In Mumbai, the Plastindia Foundation recycled 200,000 plastic bottles into cloth to make the world’s largest t-shirt! India is BIG on recycling!

The Sindh forest department in Pakistan wanted to plant some mangrove trees on an island mudflat, to help its threatened ecosystem. They decided to bring attention to coastal conservation by setting a world record in the process. 300 people planted 1,129,294 mangroves in only 12.5 hours! That averages out to 12 seconds per tree!

Most trash goes into landfills, big holes that gradually turn into mountains of trash covered with dirt. There is no oxygen to decompose it, and the trash produces methane gas that hurts our atmosphere. About half of the stuff in a landfill is food and paper that could be composted. Build a compost pile and reduce waste!

The new State of Global Air report just came out. It found that 95% of the world’s population breathes polluted air, with some of the the worst air quality in the poorest countries. But many countries are using more clean solar and wind energy, and finding other ways to reduce pollution. Working together, we will breathe clean air again!

Apparently common sense is not enough to keep cars from driving or parking on sidewalks, so British inventor Yannick Read created the Catclaw. The device pops a metal spike out, to slash the tires of a car or truck that rolls over it. Lighter objects like people or bikes will not activate it. That should keep pedestrians safe!
