2 new species of ants were discovered in Texas. Since the tiny queen ants ride the backs of larger ant queens, from other colonies, they were named rodeo ants. Their jaws are specially-shaped to grip the larger ant’s waist, hitching a ride to a colony already filled plenty of food.

In Olympia Washington, Josh Phillips and his friend spotted an unlikely pair on the water. A couple of Steller sea lions, were relaxing on top of a small boat. Since the animals can grow up to 11 feet long and 2500 pounds, it made the boat look like a dinghy, that was about to sink!

The fake package was filled with poop, and set to explode 40 seconds after it was moved. He recorded the thief throwing the box from his poop-splattered car!

Did you know there are cotton candy planets? They don’t exist in our Solar System, but they’ve been spotted around the Kepler 51 star. Also called super-puffs, the objects are very young planets that are the size of Jupiter, but with a light and airy density like cotton candy. They probably wouldn’t taste very good.

Today is the winter solstice, the shortest day of the year in Earth’s Northern Hemisphere. The sun’s maximum elevation will be at its lowest, meaning the period of darkness is longest. Starting tomorrow, the days will gradually get longer. In the Southern Hemisphere, it’s the summer solstice!

Santa’s not the only one who comes down chimneys. In Ohio, a family was surprised to see a squirrel behind the glass doors of their fireplace! The squirrel had scampered down their chimney. He escaped into the living room, and took a wild tour around the house, before being captured and released outside.
