A day off from school or work this holiday, traditionally celebrated Columbus Day. More recently, the holiday has shifted to Native American Day or Indigenous Peoples’ Day. Columbus came to a land already inhabited by 50,000,000 people, and treated them badly. The people that were already living there, are the ones we honor today.

Today is Bathtub Day, so skip your shower and take a relaxing bubble bath instead! You could also pamper your tub by giving it a good cleaning. It’s also LED Light Day. Light Emitting Diode bulbs are bright and energy efficient. LED holiday lights are the best, because the bulbs don’t fall out!

Happy Smithsonian Day

Are you thinking of going to a museum today? Maybe you should put it off until next Saturday, September 20th, when it might be free! More than 1500 museums across the United States will participate in Museum Day. You can print out tickets at smithsonianmag.org. Of course, Smithsonian museums in Washington DC are always free!

Today is Avocado Day, and Hawaii grows some of the world’s heaviest. One avocado weighed 5.6 pounds, and made enough guacamole to feed the whole Pokini family! They hold the official world record, but Kenji Fukumitsu has often given away avocados that weigh more than 6 pounds! That’s a lot of avocado toast.

Did you know, it’s Record Store Day? Vinyl records lost popularity as cassettes & CDs took over, but they’re starting to make a comeback. In fact, there are lots of companies, that will press your own custom record. Immortalize your talents on vinyl, and maybe someone will buy it someday in a record store.
