Katie Van Blaricum volunteers at a zoo, so she has experience helping animals. She even saved the life of a butterfly, by giving it a wing transplant! A monarch had a torn wing, so she cut off the broken piece, and glued on a wing from a dead butterfly. The new wing worked great!

Celebrate National Pasta Day with this fun fact: Kevin Cole holds the record for the Longest Spaghetti Nasal Ejection. He put a strand of spaghetti in his mouth, then blew it out his nostril  7 1/2 inches! He can also suck spaghetti in one nostril and pull it out the other, to floss his nose.

There are always new customers coming into shops and restaurants. That’s why Get To Know Your Customer Day comes 4 times a year! Whether you’re working with a customer, or being a customer, take the extra time to talk to each other. Friendliness helps customers leave with a free gift: a big smile!

Today is Wear Something Gaudy Day, so get out your brightest, showy clothes! A neon shirt with sparkly pants and polka dot socks would be perfect! It’s also Playing Card Collection Day. Do you have more than one deck of cards? Which deck is your favorite? Show them off while playing cards with someone!

2 firefighters in Utah helped at the scene of a car crash, by getting a manicure. None of the victims were seriously injured, but one little girl was scared and screaming. To calm her down, the men asked her to paint their fingernails. They soon had pretty purple nails, and one happier child.

Today is known as both Global Cat Day, and Feral Cat Day. Maybe it’s because if one feral, or wild, cat has kittens, and their kittens have kittens, and so on, in 9 years there would be 11,000,000 cats! Cats are awesome, but they would rapidly take over the world. Meow-za!

The US National Park Service is celebrating National Fossil Day today at many of their parks. Fossils are prehistoric plants or animals, petrified and preserved in stone. Paleontologists study fossils, like dinosaur bones! You can download a Junior Paleontologist Activity Booklet online, to help you celebrate. Do you have any fossils?

Today is Dictionary Day, so think of a word you don’t know the meaning of, and look it up! Or just flip through the Q and X sections, to find words for your next Scrabble game. It’s also Take Your Parents To Lunch Day. Make some sandwiches to take on a picnic!

The hagfish is amazingly disgusting. Sometimes called the slime eel, the hagfish has no skull or jaws. It escapes predators by releasing up to 5 gallons of slime, clogging the attacker’s gills with mucous. It eats dead animals by crawling in through their mouth and eating the carcass from the inside out. Happy Hagfish Day!

Jen Mignard was training her sled dog team for a mushing competition in Montana, when the team took off without her. Her sled had tipped over, but the dogs kept going. They led the police on a slow-speed chase, having a great time until they were caught and returned back home.
