Doorway to the Underworld Opens Wide

Much of Siberia is covered in permafrost, where the ground temperature stays below freezing all the time. But large portions are starting to thaw out, causing the ground to slump and create holes. One giant crater nicknamed the “Doorway to the Underworld” is uncovering 200,000 year-old climate data, ancient pollen, and prehistoric animals.
