Masked Chimu Guardians Uncovered

Archaeologists have uncovered 19 black wooden statues in the citadel ruins of Chan Chan in Peru. Some of the statues, which are 27 inches tall, and 700 to 900 years old, are wearing clay masks. They are believed to be guardians, lining the corridor to the courtyard. Chan Chan was the capital city of the ancient Chimu culture.
