Old Megaflashes Set New Records

In 2020, a 477-mile-long bolt of lightning, stretched across 3 states, making it the longest recorded distance of a lightning flash. A bolt over Uruguay and Argentina also set a record, for longest duration of a lightning flash. It lasted 17.1 seconds. The record-setting bolts were just spotted, thanks to new satellite-tracking technology.
