New Island Appears, But Not for Long

Last month, a submerged volcano in the Tonga Islands, started oozing lava and rocks underwater. While ash and steam rose to the surface, the lava formed a mound that spread 24,000 square meters. It has poked up through the water, forming a new island. It’ll probably sink again, before anyone can walk on it.
