Today is Skyscraper Day. What’s the tallest building in your city? The tallest building in the world is the Burj Khalifa in Dubai. It’s 2,717 feet tall, which is more than half-a-mile! Have you heard of wooden plyscrapers? Strong cross-laminated timber, or CLT, is produced in Riddle Oregon, by gluing wood together. Neat!

Plants Suck Up the Fresh Water

Islands filled with reeds, have been popping up in Utah’s Great Salt Lake. Scientists found a natural network of pathways, carrying fresh water from an underground reservoir, to mounds of earth in the salty area. The fresh water helps vegetation thrive on the mounds, but gets saltier as it spreads out.

Robot Will Look Out for the Trees

30% of Poland is covered in forests. A forestry robot will soon be helping to take care of them. The robot can access locations that humans can’t reach, just like a goat. Robogoat will perform land surveys, tree inventories, tick collecting, species counting, and even scans for historical artifacts.

Will Your Cat Play Fetch?

During a recent study, researchers found that many cats, like to play fetch. While 80% of dogs seem to enjoy playing fetch, only 40% of cats appeared interested. Cats also preferred to be the one to initiate the game. The next time your cat brings an object to you, throw it across the room.
