Get out all your pink clothes, for Pink Day! Pink used to be the color for boys in the 19th century. The lighter shade of red, was considered masculine. Later, it was considered a girl’s color. Now, everybody wears all the colors! It’s also Pink Flamingo Day, celebrating the best lawn ornaments ever.

Today is Typewriter Day. Typing on a computer, where you can delete mistakes, or move paragraphs around, is so easy. But what happens when the printer won’t work again? On a typewriter, you can enjoy rolling the paper in, listening to the clacks and dings, and watching keys strike the paper. It’s so satisfying!

Self-Sufficient Sea-Spiders

A newly-discovered species of deep-sea spider, is astounding scientists. Actually a marine arthropod, the spiders exist near cracks in the seafloor, where methane gas seeps out. Bacteria living on the spiders turn the gas into carbon and energy, and the spiders turn the bacteria into food, by eating them directly off their own bodies.

16 Times Luckier

If you spend enough time looking at the ground, you might find a 4-leaf clover, which is considered good luck. But Yoshiharu Watanabe, makes his own luck. He grows his own clover, and hand-pollinates the ones with the most leaves. He once grew a world record-breaking super-duper lucky clover, with 63 leaves!

Rainforests Are Essential

Rainforests are home to countless species of plants, animals, and insects, as well as an important source of oxygen. The Amazon rainforest alone, supplies 20% of the world’s oxygen, and holds a fifth of the world’s freshwater. Unfortunately, acres of rainforest are cut down every minute. Educate yourself, in honor of World Rainforest Day.

Fountains of Fire

Hawaii’s Kilauea volcano, is erupting. It started with small spurts on Thursday, then increased to shooting jets of lava, 1000 feet into the air. The fountains are feeding a lava flow, that remains contained in a crater at the top. Kilauea is one of the world’s most active volcanoes, erupting 26 times since December.

The highest wave ever surfed that was officially recorded, was a 78-foot wave in Nazare Portugal. After hitting the beach, have a tropical treat of blended fruits, to enjoy Smoothie Day.
