Today is Bellydance Day. Watch a bellydancing tutorial, then give it a try. It’s also Train Day. Take a train ride, or count the graffiti-covered cars on a passing train. Give your best train-whistle, and say, “All aboard!” Then celebrate Windmill Day, by making your own pinwheel, and taking it outside for a spin.

You know the saying, to walk a mile in someone else’s shoes? It means you have to put yourself in their place, to understand what they’re going through. But some people don’t even have shoes. One Day Without Shoes Day, brings awareness to the 300,000,000 people in poverty, who must go barefoot.

Today is Clean Up Your Room Day. There’s nothing like walking into a nice clean room, without tripping over anything! Don’t forget to clean under the bed. If your room is extremely messy, you could be cleaning all night. It’s a good thing it’s Stay Up All Night Night!

An Irish soccer player set the new world record, for farthest distance soccer throw-in by a female. Megan Campbell, of the London City Lionesses, threw the ball 123 feet, 2 inches. She is the first woman to hold the record, so she jokes it will be beaten as soon as people hear about it.

A beekeeper in Ohio, was alerted to an intruder invading his beehives. He looked at the surveillance cameras, and discovered it was a bear! The bear dragged an entire hive to the woods, and ate the honey, wax, and even the bees. A hive holds 10 to 50000 bees, so that bear’s surely full.

It’s Fintastic Friday, Giving Sharks, Skates, and Rays a Voice. The best way to protect the ocean’s elasmobranchs, is for everyone to learn more about them. Sharks, rays, and skates, are types of cartilaginous fish, that don’t have swim bladders. You have cartilage in your ears, but sharks have cartilage skeletons, instead of bones.

Today is Hurray For Buttons Day! Zippers are quicker and Velcro is easy, but buttons can be beautiful or whimsical, and they’re definitely quieter. It’s also Butterscotch Brownie Day. Sometimes known as blondies, the yummy dessert is made with brown sugar, but no chocolate. Save one for me!

Today is Lost Sock Memorial Day. After taking one last look behind the dryer, have a memorial service to thank them and say goodbye. Use their left-behind mates for sock puppets, or dry-erase board cleaners. Or you could just wear mismatched socks. There’s no law saying socks have to match!

Today is World Donkey Day. Male donkeys are called jacks, and a female is called a jenny. Wild donkeys are only found in North America, although domesticated donkeys live worldwide. Donkeys can hear other donkeys 60 miles away, with their long ears. They can remember donkeys they’ve met, and places they’ve visited, 25 years later!

Don’t you wish there was a book about your cat? Today is Make-A-Book Day, so create one yourself! You can make a simple book by folding sheets of paper in half, and stapling them together at the fold. Will you write a long story, or make a picture book with colorful drawings? Have fun!
