Built-In Bacteria Helps Plastic Decompose

Last year, researchers developed a new, self-digesting plastic. The material has bacterial spores living inside, that help it biodegrade once it’s discarded. Even plastics that claim to be compostable, need a microbe-rich environment to actually break them down, so they often never disappear. Self-degrading plastic has the microbes built right in, to decompose it effectively.

The End of Kosmos 482

After 53 years, a failed spacecraft from the Soviet Venus exploration program, has returned to Earth. Kosmos 482 got stuck in Earth orbit, never making it to Venus. Its orbit slowly lowered over the years, until it finally got close enough for Earth’s atmosphere to drag it down, crashing the spacecraft into the ocean.

A building in Singapore, contains an urban forest. The 17th through 20th floors of the CapitaSpring tower are a Green Oasis, where a spiral path trails through gardens and tiny tropical forests. The rooftop gardens supply herbs, fruits, and vegetables to 3 restaurants. All in all, the 51-story skyscraper, holds more than 80,000 plants.
