Elephants are the largest land mammals in the world. Their skin is an inch thick, they can weigh over 12,000 pounds, and they eat 300-600 pounds of food a day, with around 220 pounds coming back out as poop. Today is Day Of The Mushroom. There are more than 10,000 kinds of mushrooms, but only around 600 are edible. If you see a mushroom in your yard, don’t eat it. It might be poisonous! Instead, buy mushrooms at the store, for your fungi feast. Save the wild mushrooms, for your photo album.

For people who work from home, it will be easy to celebrate Wear Your Pajamas To Work Day. For everyone else, be bold, prepare to explain to everyone that you didn’t simply forget to get dressed this morning! It’s also Orchid Day. There are over 21,000 varieties of these flowering plants. The world record for most high fives in 24 hours, is 15,338. Can you break the record, for High Five Day? Just reach up and clap someone’s hand over your heads. Wash your hands after high-fiving anyone, to avoid spreading germs. Celebrate everything with everyone, with a big high five!

Cotton-top tamarins are small monkeys weighing only 1 pound, with a crest of white fur on their heads. Native to Colombia and highly endangered, many zoos are helping the species survive with breeding programs. A set of twins was born last month, at the San Antonia Zoo. Both parents care for the young.

Banana Day is a spring tradition at many universities, featuring everything from races to recipes. Everyone can celebrate the perfectly packaged fruit, which is actually a berry! Bananas are a good source of potassium, and taste great in bread, dipped in chocolate, or even on pizza. Bananas grow sweeter and healthier, as they ripen.

Today is McDonald’s Day. Richard and Maurice McDonald opened a barbeque restaurant in 1940, and added the Speedee Service System in 1948, selling hamburgers at a counter for 15 cents. Ray Kroc bought their business, and opened his first McDonald’s franchise, in 1955. Now, you can visit Mickey D’s in more than 120 countries!

Today is Tax Day in the United States, when adults make sure they’ve paid enough taxes on their earnings. Sometimes they owe more money, and sometimes they get money back! The government uses tax money on things that help everyone, like roads, schools, parks, libraries, and the military.
