Chicago Bull Goes Solo

After 6 days of running wild near Chicago Illinois, a 1,600-pound bull has been captured. The bull had been spotted on security cameras throughout the neighborhood, after it escaped last week. Residents were warned not to approach it, no matter how friendly he seemed. The bull was returned home safely.

Cleaning Up the Streets

Turkey vultures, or buzzards, are gigantic birds with an important job. As scavengers, they’re essential in cleaning up dead wildlife. Their featherless red heads, help keep them cool, and stay clean when they eat. Turkey vultures have a 6-foot wingspan, so it’s easy to spot them circling in the sky. Happy Vulture Awareness Day!

There’s a Bird In Your Beard

Today is Beard Day! It can be tough to grow a nice beard, so just wear a fake one. You can even draw one on with markers or eyeliner. It’s also Hummingbird Day. Bee hummingbirds are only 2 inches long, and a vervain hummingbird’s tiny eggs are only 10 mm long. Hummingbirds hover in mid-air.

Until the British Calendar Act of 1751, Europe used both the Gregorian and Julian calendars. On the Julian calendar, March 25th was New Year’s Day!

A drive-thru safari in Florida, is celebrating the birth of its 40th rhinoceros. The calf is a Southern white rhino, named Alissa. She and her mom, Anna, are doing well. White rhinos are endangered. The second-largest land mammal on Earth, they can weigh 140 pounds at birth, and their skin is 2 inches thick!

Mom Deserves a Break

Did you know today is Lazy Mom’s Day? Mom needs a day off to relax! No arguing or making messes allowed! Let her read a book while you make dinner, or just order pizza. Everyone can eat cherry popovers for dessert, because it’s also Cherry Popover Day. It’s like your own personal cherry pie.

What Rhymes With Tofu?

The purple woman’s silver spirit turned the chimney orange. Most of the words in that sentence don’t rhyme with anything, perfect for No Rhyme (Nor Reason) Day! It’s also Tofu Day. Made from soybeans, it’s a great alternative to meat in any dish. Fried tofu in ginger-soy sauce is my favorite.

Today is World Letter Writing Day. E-mail is easier, but there’s nothing like getting an actual letter in the mailbox, complete with a cool stamp. Farm Animals Know Quite a Few Tricks

Noeline Cassettari has some talented pets. Her miniature horse, Rose, and her sheep, Beanie, earned world records, by performing the most tricks in 1 minute. Some of Rose’s 13 tricks included ringing a bell, and smiling. Beanie’s 11 tricks included spinning, and going through a hoop. Both animals know more than 100 tricks!
