Get Your Hour Back With a Nap

If you live somewhere that observes Daylight Saving Time, you lost an hour of sleep yesterday. Get it back, by taking a nap after school or work, because it’s Napping Day! After your nap, make sure all the clocks have the right time, in case you missed any yesterday. Don’t forget the car!

While you’re warming up your ears, celebrate Open An Umbrella Indoors Day. It’s only bad luck, if you don’t do it in an open area!

An Australian man set a world record that sounds like fun. Oscar Lynagh covered his head in shaving cream, then bounced ping pong balls off a wall, and caught them on his head. He caught 12 balls in 30 seconds. How many could you catch? Try it and see!

Odd Circles Spotted in Martian Dunes

The Reconnaissance Orbiter, is a spacecraft that’s been circling Mars since 2006. Recently, it spotted a group of large gray circles on the Red Planet. The strange round patches in the sand dunes were interesting to scientists, who were studying how frost thaws at the end of the Martian winter.

Let’s Leave the Clocks Alone

If you hated losing an hour of sleep, because of Daylight Saving Time, here’s some good news for you. The United States is trying to pass the Sunshine Protection Act. The bill would make Daylight Saving Time permanent, meaning no more time changes! Canada is also considering an end to changing the clocks.

The Science of Batteries

Today is Check Your Batteries Day. It’s time to test your smoke detectors, to make sure the batteries are still working! Since it’s also Science Education Day, do a science experiment, and learn to make your own battery. You can use aluminum foil, copper pennies, and salt water. Look it up, and start building!

The Girl Scouts were started in 1912. It’s Girl Scout Day, so buy some of their cookies! Carry them in a bumbag, because it’s International Fanny Pack Day! It’s also Plant A Flower Day. Plant some pretty perennials, which are flowers that return every year. If it’s still too cold, start some seeds inside.

New Skateboard Records for You to Break

Pro skaters visited Hop Kingdom in London, to break some world records for the most tricks in 1 minute. Jamie Griffin did 28 skateboard heelflips and 23 varial heelflips, Alex Decunha did 23 blindfolded skateboard kickflips, Oska Sullivan performed 29 skateboard half-cab blunt fakies, and Miklos Peller did 19 nollie heelflips.

Dance Your Way to My House

Honeybees dance, to communicate with each other. They can tell one another where to find food, water, or nest location, by doing a waggle dance. They circle in a figure 8 while moving the abdomen back and forth. The longer the waggle, the further the distance, and the angle represents the direction. That’s amazing.

Your Clock Will Jump From 1:59 to 3:00

Spring forward, fall back. Clocks will move forward one hour tonight, in North America, for Daylight Saving Time. It’s dark again when kids get up for school, but there’s more natural light in the evening to play outside! It’s good for businesses, and saves a little on electricity. But I’m still sleepy!
