Rainforests Rock

Rainforests are home to countless species of plants, animals, and insects, as well as an important source of oxygen. The Amazon rainforest alone, supplies 20% of the world’s oxygen, and holds a fifth of the world’s freshwater. Unfortunately, acres of rainforest are cut down every minute. Educate yourself, in honor of World Rainforest Day.

Click Your Way Through the Dark

Animals like dolphins and bats, use echolocation to locate things. They make noises, and the sound reflects off nearby objects. Humans can also learn to use echolocation. By making a clicking sound and hearing how the sound bounces back, people who are blind can navigate unfamiliar territory, and even ride bikes.

Please Don’t Lick Me

Today is World Giraffe Day. Did you know the animal with the longest neck, still has the same number of neck bones as you? Giraffes can grow up to 20 feet tall, and have 18-inch tongues. Giraffes only need 5 to 30 minutes of sleep each day, and babies can stand up an hour after they’re born.

It’s Finally Summer

You’ve Got All Day

Don’t Try This With Working Computers

You wouldn’t normally want to knock a laptop computer to the ground, but a computer and recycling company in Indiana, did just that. They set up 2,910 laptops like dominoes, then knocked them all down in a chain reaction. They set a world record, while reminding people of the importance, of recycling old electronics.

But Were They Ticklish?

Did dinosaurs have belly buttons? Thanks to high-tech laser imaging, paleontologists say they did. A 125,000,000-year-old fossil of a Psittacosaurus, clearly showed scales surrounding an umbilical scar, similar to those in lizards and crocodiles. Although it’s more of a slit, it’s still called a belly button. Now we know dinosaurs had them.
