Today is Middle Name Pride Day. Maybe you’re named after someone special, or maybe it just sounded good. See if you can guess your friends’ middle names. It’s also the Day of Unplugging. Starting at sundown, turn off all your devices for 24 hours. Turn me back on at sundown tomorrow!

Before you get dressed today, you should know it’s Dress Day. Dress up in a dress! It’s also White Chocolate Cheesecake Day, and Frozen Food Day. Clarence Birdseye discovered, flash freezing food keeps it tasty! Frozen fruits and veggies are just as nutritious as fresh ones. Celebrate with frozen cheesecake and a tv dinner.

Today’s the day, for cookies. We’re in the middle of Chocolate Chip Cookie Week, but it’s also Oreo Cookie Day. The chocolate cookie and creme filling sandwiches were introduced in 1912, but Oreos have also come in lots of variations. Mint, birthday cake, Coca Cola, Space Dunk, and java chip, are some recent flavors.

Did you know March is Craft Month? Organize your crayons, paper, glue, clay, beads, paints, and anything else you use to get creative! Make some fabulous labels for your supplies, because it’s also Nametag Day! Don’t forget a nametag for yourself, with whatever name you’d like to be called for today.

Did you know we’re in the middle of Return Borrowed Books Week? It ends Sunday, so try to finish books from the library, or borrowed from a friend or teacher, that you’ve had for awhile. It’s also Read an E-Book Week, if you don’t want to worry about returning books.

Get ready for a day full of cheesy snacks. It’s Cheese Doodle Day, celebrating the puffy corn curls, covered in powdered cheese. Keep your orange fingers off the sofa! It’s also Poutine Day, which could be even messier. Poutine is a plate of french fries, covered with squeaky cheese curds, and brown gravy.

Eagles all over North America are starting to lay eggs. Eagle pairs add to the same nest year after year, building them up to 8 feet deep and 9 feet wide! California eagles Jackie and Shadow, have 2 eggs in their nest. You can watch them, at Friends of Big Bear Valley.org.

Ecologists in the Netherlands, invented a fish doorbell. Utrecht’s canals are controlled by locks, which are gates that open, for boats to pass. Fish also need to pass, so an underwater live-streaming camera lets people watch for fish gathering at the gate. When anyone rings the virtual doorbell, the lock-keeper lets the fish through.

Today is National Sons Day. We’re talking about male children, not balls of fire in the sky! Go to the park, or play board games, to celebrate the day with your family. Since it’s also Snack Day, pack all your favorites! Bring healthy snacks like fruits and veggies too, not just junk food!

Since today is Pound Cake Day, here’s an easy recipe! Cream one pound of butter, and gradually add one pound of sugar. Mix in one pound of eggs, then add a pound of flour, a little at a time. Bake at 300° Fahrenheit, for 1 hour and 15 minutes. Do you see why it’s called pound cake?
