The 50th Birthday of Earth Day

50 years ago, on April 22nd 1970, Wisconsin Senator Gaylord Nelson created Earth Day. He wanted people to focus on the environment, air and water pollution. It grew into a global movement, bringing the world together to try and keep the Earth clean, prevent global warming, and preserve nature for future generations. Happy Earth Day!

Climbing the Walls With Boredom

Erin Sloan is a 15-year-old who loves rock-climbing. She works as an instructor at a climbing center in England, but grew bored when it closed down due to the coronavirus outbreak. Erin decided to build her own rock-climbing wall, in her bedroom! Now she can continue training, and the ceiling’s the limit!

Butterflies Like to See You Sweat

Butterflies are beautiful, and seem so delicate. But did you know they drink pee? Entomolgist Phil Torres, documented butterflies in the Amazon drinking a puddle of urine. They needed the sodium to survive. They’re also known to drink turtle tears, and if you’re on a sweaty hike, a butterfly might find you tasty!

Most kids have some extra free time, while their schools are shut down. Make an effort to do something creative or innovative today! Create some art. Figure out a new way to do something. Rearrange the furniture. It’s World Creativity and Innovation Day, so it’s up to you, to decide what to do!

Nuts About Tea and Bulldogs

Today is Chocolate Covered Cashews Day. Cashew nuts are seeds, formed on the bottom of cashew apples. They’re crazy-looking! It’s also Tea Day. Have a tea party with your teddy bears, pets, and family. Do you have a pet bulldog? Take some photos to show them off, for Bulldogs Are Beautiful Day!

Don’t Go Out Underdressed

Many people are working from home, or taking classes online, during the COVID-19 lockdown. But it’s still helpful to get dressed! Apparently, some people forget to put pants on, when they check their mail. The Taneytown Police Department issued a final warning on its Facebook page, reminding one Maryland resident to remember their pants.

Flamingo, Flamin-gone

A flamingo escaped from the Dudley Zoo in England, with a little help from the weather. Although the flamingos have their wings clipped so they won’t fly away, a gust of wind lifted the bird right out of the enclosure! After wandering around a bit, the flamingo returned to the zoo on its own.

My Arms Are Tired

Last week, an Australian man broke a world record, for doing push-ups. Jarrad Young completed 2806 push-ups in one hour! Luckily, someone recorded it on video. That would have been horrible if he lost count, and had to start over again! How many push-ups can you do? Maybe you can beat Jarrad’s record!
