EJ Brandt and David Benscoter, have an unusual hobby. They travel around the Pacific Northwest, looking for apples. Specifically, they’re searching in abandoned orchards, for apple varieties that were believed to be extinct. There used to be 17,000 varieties spread across North America, but only around 4,500 are left. How many can you name?

Don’t dis your vegetables; it’s National Lima Bean Respect Day. It’s also Cheddar Fries and Pineapple Upside Down Cake Day, but I guess they don’t demand respect! After eating cheese fries, cake, and beans, celebrate Look Alike Day, by dressing like someone or something else. Maybe your brother? Maybe a lima bean!

The Cambridgeshire Fire and Rescue Service, is getting a bit tired of sheep. They keep getting stuck, in a muddy river in England. They rescued a sheep who’d been trapped in the mud, but were soon called to help 6 more stranded sheep. After a 3rd call to rescue 2 more sheep, they’ve blocked the area!

A man in Chicago Illinois bought $90 worth of groceries, or so he thought. He soon realized, that he’s been charged over $11,500! Last year, a family in Texas was billed $1600, for a 20 dollar pizza order. Although the mistakes were corrected, it’s an important lesson to learn. Always check your receipts!

White-tailed eagles are one of the largest eagle species in the world. Also known as sea eagles, they’ve been spotted in England, for the first time in 240 years! Experts and volunteers had worked together, to reintroduce a sea eagle population to the wild coasts of Great Britain, safe from buildings, windmills, and civilization.

Indonesia has hundreds of volcanoes, including about 130 active ones. That’s why the area is called the Pacific Rim of Fire. One of Indonesia’s islands, called Anak Krakatau, is a volcano that’s been erupting throughout 20 20. The clouds of steam are visible from space, so satellites can keep an eye on it!

Today is Bicycle Day. Give your bike a tune-up, so it’ll be all ready to ride, when coronavirus is under control again. It’s also Garlic Day. Eat a loaf of garlic bread and celebrate your pungent breath! Then get some fresh air, by hanging clothes to dry on a clothesline. It’s Hanging Out Day!

Beautiful blue waves rolled into Newport Beach California this week. The waves were visible at night, because they were full of glowing blue algae! Bioluminescent phytoplankton glowed in the dark, putting on a dazzling light show for photographer Patrick Coyne. You can see his video on Instagram, at patrick c l a.

Susanta Nanda recorded an unusual sight in India. There was a monkey on a rooftop, flying a kite! Did the kite get caught on something, or did someone leave it tied up? However the kite ended up there, it belongs to the monkey now. He pulled the string until he could catch the kite!

Look up in the sky this week, and you’ll have a good chance of spotting a shooting star. Earth is passing through the debris field of Comet C/1861 G1 Thatcher. Bits of rock burn up in the atmosphere, causing meteor showers. The Lyrid meteor showers will be clearest, looking east in a pre-dawn sky.
