Tasty Tortilla Triangles

Crunch-crunch-crunch. Today is National Tortilla Chip Day! In Los Angeles in the 19 40’s, Rebecca Webb Carranza noticed all the misshapen tortillas that were rejected at the El Zarape Tortilla Factory. She cut them into triangles and fried them, then sold them for 10 cents a bag. Corn + oil + water + salt = delicious!

 

Tons of Honey

A man in California was concerned, with the number of bees coming out of a hole in his shed. He called Bee Nice Wildlife Management to check it out, and discovered a 70-pound beehive under the shed! The hive was home to over 100,000 bees! They were able to safely relocate the entire colony.

Super-Powered Jellyfish

Scientists have figured out a new way to explore the ocean. They created a bionic jellyfish! By placing a microelectronic implant in a moon jellyfish, they can enhance its swimming abilities, and direct where it travels. They hope studying the implanted jellyfish, will help them understand how to make new underwater vehicles.

Vet Helps the Homeless Keep Their Pets

GoFundMe is a website, where strangers can donate money to good causes. Dr Kwane Stewart, is the official GoFundMe Hero for February. He’s a veterinarian who treats homeless people’s pets in California. Dr Stewart has helped over 400 animals over the last 9 years for free, but sometimes he raises money when homeless pets need surgery.

Banana Biscuits

Today is Banana Bread Day. It started out as a way to use up the mushy bananas that nobody wanted to eat, but it’s delicious! It’s also Dog Biscuit Day, so give your poochie a treat. Find a good recipe, and bake him a batch of biscuits so good, that you’d eat them too!

There’s more to the sport of curling, than sliding a big rock down the ice. Nature Has Fun With Ice

The shores of Lake Michigan, are showing off some great ice formations this winter. Last week, thousands of ice balls, in sizes from baseball to yoga ball, rolled onto beaches at Holland Park. This week, there were ice volcanoes! Waves build up under an icy surface, and spew slush into the air when they find an opening.

If you love McDonald’s hamburgers, but you’re too full to eat another bite, here’s a solution. Light some hamburger-scented candles. McDonald’s has created candles in 6 unusual scents. You can mix-and-match bun, ketchup, pickle, cheese, onion, and beef aromas, to smell a calorie-free meal. I think I’ll stick with vanilla.
