Start Stuffing Your Face

Thanksgiving is this week, in the United States. Start your feast early, because today is Pumpkin Pie Day. Then you’ll have room to try other flavors on Thursday. Today is also Stuffing Day! Little cubes of bread, cooked with seasonings and whatever else you want to add, is the best stuff!

Is Your Pumpkin Squishy Yet?

Halloween is long gone. What will you do with your jack-o’-lanterns?  Leave your pumpkin outside as a science project, to watch it slowly mildew and rot. Let squirrels or groundhogs snack on it. Donate old pumpkins to a farm, to feed their animals. You could even have a pumpkin-chucking contest, into a compost pile!

Ditch the Beards

If you see some of your favorite bearded people looking less hairy today, it might be because it’s No Beard Day. Imagine Gandalf, Hagrid, or Santa Claus without beards! At least they wouldn’t get chocolatey beards, for Chocolate Cupcake Day! Do you bite into a cupcake, or lick the frosting off first?

Make a Fashion Statement

Today is Wear Something Gaudy Day, so get out your brightest, showy clothes! A neon shirt with sparkly pants and polka dot socks would be perfect! It’s also Playing Card Collection Day. Do you have more than one deck of cards? Which deck is your favorite? Show them off while playing cards with someone!

Control the Kitty Population

Today is known as both Global Cat Day, and Feral Cat Day. Maybe it’s because if one feral, or wild, cat has kittens, and their kittens have kittens, and so on, in 9 years there would be 11,000,000 cats! Cats are awesome, but they would rapidly take over the world. Meow-za!

Can You Knit a Parachute?

Today is Bridge Day, but it’s not really about bridges. It’s about BASE jumpers, the people who jump off of them for fun, using parachutes or wingsuits! BASE stands for Buildings, Antennas, Spans, (like bridges), and Earth, (like cliffs). It’s also I Love Yarn Day, if knitting is more your style!

Celebrate America’s Original Residents

A day off from school or work this holiday, traditionally celebrated Columbus Day. In recent years however, the holiday has shifted to Native American Day or Indigenous Peoples’ Day. Columbus actually came to an inhabited land, and treated its people badly. The people that were already living there, are the ones we honor today.

Moonlit Meteors

Tonight may be a good night to see some meteors! The Draconid meteor shower should be visible in the early evening, and is caused by debris from the 21P/Giacobini-Zinner Comet. The Comet 2P/Encke is responsible for the South Taurid meteor shower. Debris burns up in the atmosphere, creating fireballs that streak across the sky.
