You Say Umbrella, I Say Bumbershoot

Today we celebrate Umbrella Day. The umbrella, or bumbershoot, has been around for over 4000 years, but the Chinese were the first, to waterproof paper parasols. Folding umbrellas didn’t show up until 19 69. There’s an umbrella shop in London, called James Smith and Sons, that opened in 18 30. After 193 years, they must be umbrella experts!

Everyone Gets Pizza for Dinner

Last month, YouTuber Airrack teamed up with Pizza Hut, to set a new world record. They made a gigantic pizza, measuring 13,957 square feet. The team laid out the ingredients on the floor of the Los Angeles Convention Center, then baked it using heat lamps. It had more than 630,000 pepperonis.

A Cake-Pan Halo

2-year-old Quinnley Meixel might have been hoping to make a cake, but ended up needing firefighters to rescue her instead. She took an angel food cake pan, which has a removable center section, and got her head stuck in it. Firefighters snipped the metal apart, and removed her safely. Baking can be tricky!

Make Your Own Transportation

A man in California, built his own solar-powered tricycle, out of stuff lying around in his garage. Milton Butler is an inventor, and he says the design came to him in a dream. The trike uses an electric motor in a storage bin, and really saves money on gas! He named his trike Duckie.

Sometimes Bitter is Better

Today is Chocolate Day, and also Toothache Day. Is it a coincidence? Or is it a reminder, that eating sweets without cleaning your teeth afterwards, could give you cavities? Schedule a visit with your dentist, then reward yourself with a chocolate taste test. Sample everything from creamy milk chocolate, to extra dark chocolate.

Soak Off the Sauce

Walls Filled With Acorns

A homeowner in California, called pest control, because mealworms and maggots were crawling out of a wall in their house. After cutting a hole in the wall, the technician found it was full of acorns! Woodpeckers had been stashing acorns through the chimney for years, and made a pile 20 feet high.
