North Cowichan, in British Columbia Canada, is the home of the World’s Largest Hockey Stick. But the 61,000-pound hockey stick, may be home to a pair of woodpeckers. Northern flickers have started pecking holes in the stick, which may mean they’ve built a nest. They must be big hockey fans!

Banana Day is a spring tradition at many universities, featuring everything from races to recipes. Everyone can celebrate the perfectly packaged fruit, which is actually a berry! Bananas are a good source of potassium, and taste great in bread, dipped in chocolate, or even on pizza. Bananas grow sweeter and healthier, as they ripen.

Today is Look Alike Day. Dress like your brother, and blame it on him when you get caught swiping cookies. You can also slice apples, to make them look like french fries. Since it’s Cheddar Fries Day, melt some gooey cheese on top of actual french fries, for a delicious snack.

Don’t diss your vegetables. It’s Lima Bean Respect Day, and those tiny packages hold protein, iron, magnesium, potassium, and zinc. After finishing your lima beans, treat yourself to some unusual cake. It’s Pineapple Upside Down Cake Day. You line the pan with pineapple rings, so they’re on top when you remove the cake.

Stationery Adds a Special Touch

Today is World Stationery Day. Write someone special a letter, on your favorite writing paper. If you don’t have any, decorate your own, or learn to make handmade paper. It’s also Chinese Language Day. Learn some of the Chinese characters that would represent your name, and write them on your fancy paper.

A Titanic Feat

The Titanic is currently Lego’s second-largest set, containing a whopping 9,090 pieces. Paul Ufema, who runs the All New Bricks YouTube channel, just set a world record, by assembling the Lego Titanic ship in 10 hours, 46 minutes, and 31 seconds. It’s a good thing he didn’t lose any pieces!

Bees Need to See Speed

Scientists discovered a strange thing, about honeybees. When they fly over a smooth surface, like a perfectly still lake, or a mirror, bees crash. That’s because they use visual cues from the surface, to maintain their altitude. When they can’t see the ground whizzing along below them, they soon drop, and slam into it.

Ants Are Amazing

There are 1.6 million ants, for every person on Earth, but it’s not just their numbers that are incredible. Researchers have filmed fire ants, paving a path over sticky surfaces, using particles of soil or sand. They also form rafts by clinging to each other in a huge mass, and floating on air bubbles.

The Rewards of Coin Collecting

Did you know, it’s Coin Week? A coin collector is called a numismatist. Study all the coins in your house. Find the date on each one, and compare how designs changed over the years. Do you have any old wheat pennies, or quarters featuring different states? How about coins from other countries? Start a collection.

Today is Bicycle Day. Give your bike a tune-up, and go for a ride. Don’t forget your helmet! It’s also Garlic Day. Eat a loaf of garlic bread and celebrate your pungent breath! Then get some fresh air, by hanging clothes to dry on a clothesline. It’s Hanging Out Day!
