Unidentified Flying Planetary Fragment?

In 2017, the first interstellar object ever detected, passed by Earth. The cigar-shaped object was named Oumuamua, and scientists tried to learn as much as they could, before it got too far away. A new theory suggests, Oumuamua was shrapnel from a tiny planet, in another Solar System. Some people still believe it’s a spaceship.

Magical Irish Creatures

Today is a good day to learn about Irish leprechauns and fairies. The supernatural beings are hard to spot. Leprechauns are said to keep their pots of gold hidden at the end of a rainbow. Fairies live in fairy mounds, or forts surrounded by rings of trees. Don’t make them mad.

Are You Wearing Green?

Today is Saint Patrick’s Day. Patrick was British, but became a Christian missionary in Ireland in the 5th century. The Feast of Saint Patrick has become a celebration of all things Irish, from shamrocks to leprechauns to the color green. Bake some Irish soda bread, and dye the butter green. Happy Paddy’s Day!

The Bear is Back

Springtime means the return of Ursa Major, the Great Bear, high in the night sky. The constellation known as the Big Dipper, was lingering near the horizon all winter. Find the 7 stars of the Big Dipper, then follow a path up the outer edge of the cup. It leads to Polaris, the North Star.

Panda-Monium!

Today is Panda Day, celebrating the lovable black and white fur-balls. The endangered giant panda lives in China, and has a boring diet. They eat bamboo, for up to 14 hours a day! They only weigh 4 ounces at birth, but grow to be 350 pounds. Instead of hibernating like other bears, pandas play in the snow!

Imaginary Saint

Every year, a parade is cancelled, for Saint Urho of Finland’s Day. Saint Urho drank sour whole milk and ate fish soup to gain the power of a loud voice, and used it to cast the frogs and grasshoppers out of Finland. Finnish-Americans made him up, in the 19 50s. Wear purple and green today!

Put the Phone Down

Most people have heard of selfies, when you take a photo of yourself. But did you know they can be more dangerous than shark attacks? Statistics show people are 20 times more likely to be killed in a selfie accident, than by a shark attack. Be safe, and celebrate No Selfies Day!

Tulips on Your Face

Yesterday was Everything You Think is Wrong Day. Today, is Everything You Do Is Right Day! Whether you put mustard on your pizza, or wear your socks in the shower, you’re still right. It’s also Lips Appreciation Day, so give them some moisturizing lip balm, and use them to smile!

Firefighters Rescue Bird

Firefighters are commonly called to do more, than fight fires. They often rescue animals who are caught in high places, like cats that get stuck in trees. Firefighters in Virginia, even had to rescue a bird on a roof. A starling had its head caught in the siding, and needed a helping hand.

Time for a Nice Nap

If you live somewhere that observes Daylight Saving Time, you lost an hour of sleep yesterday. Get it back, by taking a nap after school or work, because it’s Napping Day! After your nap, make sure all the clocks have the right time, in case you missed any yesterday. Don’t forget the car!
