Circling Buzzards

Each spring, buzzards show up in Hinckley Ohio. The turkey vultures have returned to the cliffs and caverns of Whipp’s Ledges like clockwork every March 15th. Everyone in town loves watching for them on Buzzard Day! Vultures eat dead animals, so look for them along roadsides. They also soar in circles in the sky.

Beware the Middle of the Month

Beware the Ides of March. That’s today! But unless you’re Julius Caesar, you’re safe. Julius Caesar was a Roman leader, who was assassinated March 15th, in 44 BC. That line is from a play by William Shakespeare, when a soothsayer was warning Caesar that his life was in danger. It’s fun to say it ominously!

This Speech is About Being Wrong

Some people think they know everything. They won’t appreciate Everything You Think Is Wrong Day! Leave decision-making for another day, since whatever you choose will be wrong. It’s also World Speech Day. Make awards for everyone in your family, then take turns giving acceptance speeches! Don’t forget to clap and cheer them on!

Stepping on a LEGO piece hurts. A lot. But what if you had LEGO shoes? The Adidas company has teamed up with LEGO, to make brightly colored shoes, with building brick patterned soles. It’s not as fun as building your own shoes, but they’ll be much more comfortable!

Since it’s also Science Education Day, do a science experiment, and learn to make your own battery. You can use aluminum foil, copper pennies, and salt water. Look it up, and start building!

I Want My Sleep Back

Spring forward, fall back. Clocks moved forward one hour in North America, for Daylight Saving Time. It’s dark again when kids get up for school, but there’s more natural light in the evening to play outside! It’s good for businesses, and saves a little on electricity. But I’m still sleepy!

Colossal LEGO Colosseum

The world’s largest LEGO set, is a model of the Roman Colosseum. The set contains 9,036 pieces, and sells for $550. The designer, who’s built it several times, says it takes over 30 hours to assemble. The set portrays how the Colosseum would have looked in 80 AD, when it was first constructed. There’s over 800 pages of directions!

Meow Do I Get Down?

A cat in Florida, was stuck high in a tree, for over a week. After 3 separate attempts, firefighters were finally able to rescue the poor kitty, who had climbed higher and higher to escape them. They named him Paul, in honor of his rescuer, and fed him a bowl of spaghetti.
