Today is World Radio Day. Before TV, families used to listen to radio shows together. It’s great for new music. But radio is important for more than entertainment. In 1946, United Nations Radio was established to help connect the world. Radio still reaches parts of the world, that don’t have internet service or television signals.

College students Samuel Felinton and Declan Mungovan, created the longest film ever made. The movie, called “The Freedom of Uselessness,” documents the life of 2 moss balls named Spoiled and Bubba, for 100 days. The moss balls just rest in a tank of water, challenging the audience to slow down and simply exist.

No More New Pennies

Find a penny, pick it up, all the day you’ll have good luck. It’s always lucky to find money! Today is Lost Penny Day. The United States stopped making pennies on November 12, 2025. They might be worth a lot one day! Pre-19 82 pennies are already worth 2-3 cents each.

Today is Paul Bunyan Day, named for the giant North American lumberjack, and Babe, his big blue ox. Legend says Paul Bunyan sawed the legs off his parents’ bed when he was 7 months old, and formed the Great Lakes as watering holes for Babe. It’s also Hug Day. Who needs a giant hug?

A Million Insects for Every Human

It would take a lot of insects, to weigh as much as a human. But researchers estimate, that the combined weight of all the arthropods in the world, is about equal to all the humans and farm animals. About 40%, comes from termites alone. Spiders, millipedes, woodlice, and other insects, are important to the ecosystem.

Innovative Ideas

Think about all the things you use every day. Someone invented them all, from light bulbs and televisions, to socks and forks. Today is Inventors’ Day, so look up the origins of your favorite objects. When was it invented? Try to make your own invention, and someday someone might be looking up your object!
