Mars Is Earth’s Neighbor

Today is Red Planet Day, named for the planet Mars. It looks like a reddish-orange star in the night sky. Mars is red because the surface is full of iron oxide. It’s rusty! We’ve sent multiple rovers to its surface, to explore and take pictures. Someday, humans might live on Mars!

If the crowds are too much for you, celebrate Buy Nothing Day instead. Some people even organize Zombie walks, wandering blankly around stores, filling their baskets with nothing!

Today is Bavarian Cream Pie Day. The custard-like filling is also delicious in donuts and eclaires. Coincidentally, it’s also Pie In The Face Day. Today in the United States, it’s Thanksgiving Day. In 1621, in Plymouth Massachusetts, English colonists and the Wampanoag people, who had helped the colonists survive the winter, celebrated with a harvest feast that lasted several days. The Native Americans had taught them to grow corn, squash and beans. Maybe you’ll eat some today. Happy Thanksgiving!

Robot Takes a 24-Hour Trek

A robot in China set a world record, for longest journey walked by a humanoid robot. The A2 Agibot was able to walk 66 continuous miles, by swapping out batteries as it moved, while following all traffic laws along the way. A2 told reporters, it might now “need a new pair of shoes.”
