David Rush, who holds more than 250 world records, started his new year with a bang. Or more like a pop. He set a new record, by popping 100 balloons with his bare feet, in 22.38 seconds. He taped them to the floor in a line, popping 2 at a time with each step.

Today is Tempura Day. Tempura is a Japanese dish of vegetables or seafood, that are dipped in batter and deep-fried. Tempura sounds tempting! It’s also Bobblehead Day. The toys with big heads bobbing on springs, have been around more than 100 years! Just be sure you don’t deep-fry your bobbleheads today!

Travelodge had some unusual items left behind in their British hotels, in 2022. Some things were cute, like puppies named JLo and Ben, donkeys named Daisy and Duke, and a seagull. Some were expensive items, like Segway scooters, and keys to a boat. The tastiest stuff included a 4-foot-tall gingerbread man, and a wedding cake.

Perfectly Preserved in Permafrost

A cave lion cub from the Ice Age, has been discovered in Siberia. Researchers say the 28,000-year-old cub, nicknamed Sparta, is extraordinarily preserved. She was mummified by the ice, and her whiskers, fur, teeth and organs, are still intact. Cave lions were bigger than modern lions, with heavier fur, but without the big mane.

Jesus Got Some Visitors

The 12 days of Christmas have ended, and today is the Epiphany, or Three Kings Day. You could celebrate with king’s cake, a crown-shaped cake with candied fruit for jewels, and a baby Jesus doll inside. It’s also the day many people remove holiday decorations, known as Take The Christmas Tree Down Day.

Hug An Apple Tree

Today is Apple Tree Day, which started as a celebration of a nearly 200 year-old tree. When you think about it, it’s pretty amazing that food just grows on trees. It’s also Shortbread Day, so start baking! You only need flour, sugar, and butter, to bake this delicious Scottish dessert.

Beans Beans, The Musical Fruit

Today is Bean Day, and also Technology Day. To celebrate, make a big bowl of 15-bean soup. Then use computer technology to find “Vegetable Soup”, a great kids’ television show, on YouTube. Instead of watching it at 6:00 Saturday morning like kids in the 19 70’s, you can enjoy it with your bean soup lunch!
