Highways in Nebraska grew treacherous this week, as massive dust storms blew through the area. Hurricane-force winds picked up dust, making it impossible to see the roads. The wind even blew cars over. Luckily, the weather is back to normal now, with winds predicted at 6 miles-per-hour, instead of 85.

Plants Can Grow in Lunar Soil

For the first time, scientists have grown plants in lunar soil. They used dirt, brought back from the Moon in 19 69 and 19 72. Moon soil, or regolith, in thimble-sized pots, was able to sprout seeds, although the plants showed signs of stress. Someday, humans may be growing gardens on the Moon.

It’s baby zebra season. Florida’s Lion Country Safari, announced the birth of a fluffy zebra foal. Meanwhile, the Cape May County Park and Zoo, in New Jersey, added 2 baby zebras to their family. Zebra-mom Gretta, is already showing off her baby. Lydia is a first-time mom, so she’s staying secluded with her foal.

What’s the Mosquito Forecast for Next Week?

When you want to know if you’ll have nice weather for a weekend picnic, you check the weather forecast. Now, there’s also a mosquito forecast. Called OffCast Mosquito Forecast, it maps mosquito life cycles, combined with temperature and humidity conditions. If the mosquitoes will be bad, you can at least come prepared with repellant.

The Houston Zoo in Texas, has a couple of new babies running around. 2 healthy capybara pups were born, and have been named Bruno and Pepa, after characters in the movie Encanto. Their parents are named Squirt and Rio. Capybaras are the world’s largest rodents, native to Colombia. They’re related to guinea pigs.
