More people have walked on the Moon, than have journeyed to the bottom of the deepest part of the ocean. Happy Mother Ocean Day!

Today is Mother’s Day in much of the world. Did you forget? Quick, go make your mom a card! Thank you to all the women, who act as our mothers. A good gift for kids to give their moms, is a clean room. Maybe that’s why it’s also, Clean Up Your Room Day.

Annie Lovell visited the Grand Canyon in 19 87, and sent her brother a postcard. 33 years later, Paul Willis finally got it in his mailbox. It had an Iowa postmark, so Paul called to investigate. The post office said it may have been found because they are doing deep cleanings, due to the pandemic.

Police in the Netherlands, received reports of a camel with 2 humps, wandering around Rotterdam. When they went to capture the camel, it was nowhere to be found. They did however, find an emu. The bird was safely captured. Either there’s still a camel on the loose, or someone has never seen an emu!

People all over the world are recording their observations on eBird online, or using the eBird Mobile app. The Merlin Bird Id app is a great help, to identify birds. Spend some time watching, to see which birds visit your yard.

Today is Butterscotch Brownie Day. Also known as blondies, the yummy dessert is made with brown sugar, but no chocolate. Save one for me! It’s also Train Day. Whistle like a train and say, “All aboard!” Then celebrate Windmill Day, by making your own pinwheel, and taking it outside for a spin!

Today is Lost Sock Memorial Day. After taking one last look behind the dryer, have a memorial service to thank them and say goodbye. Use their left-behind mates for sock puppets, or dry-erase board cleaners. Or you could just wear mismatched socks. There’s no law saying socks have to match!

A duck laid eggs on the patio, of a restaurant in Oregon. A peacock showed up a few days later, and they’ve become friends. The Rain Bar and Grill is closed, so Mama Duck is mostly undisturbed, but the peacock is there, just to make sure. He hisses at anyone who comes near her!

Fortune cookies usually have lucky numbers on the back of the fortune, but you may have to be patient, when waiting for their luck to kick in. A North Carolina man used the numbers from his fortune cookie for 5 years, when buying Mega Millions lottery tickets. He finally won a 2,000,000-dollar jackpot!

Actor Andy Serkis, who played Gollum in the Hobbit and Lord of the Rings movies, is doing a Hobbitathon on Friday. He will be reading The Hobbit, by JRR Tolkien, livestreamed on his YouTube page. He is raising money for charity. If you see a “back in 5 minutes” sign, He’s in the bathroom!
