Scientists in Kenya and the UK, can turn the deadliest animal in the world, into a simple annoyance. Mosquitoes transmit a disease called malaria, killing around 400,000 people per year. The scientists discovered a microbe, that prevents mosquitoes from getting malaria. Now, they just need to spread the microbes to all the mosquitoes.

Today is No Homework Day! Of course, since most schools are closed, you’ll still have to do work at home. It’s also Beverage Day, so have a different drink every hour. Start with hot cocoa with marshmallows, then ice cold lemonade. It’s Crepe Suzette Day also, so enjoy your beverages with sweet crepes!

Look up in the sky this week, and you’ll have a good chance of spotting a shooting star. Earth is passing through the debris field of Halley’s comet. Bits of rock burn up in the atmosphere, causing meteor showers. The Eta Aquarid meteor showers last until May 28th, but will peak early Tuesday morning.

Today is Cinco de Mayo, which is Spanish for the Fifth of May. The day commemorates a victory in 1861: when 2000 Mexican soldiers fought off 6000 French soldiers in the Battle of Puebla, during the Franco-Mexican War. Mexican-Americans started the holiday as a celebration of their Mexican heritage including music, food, and dancing.

Millions of Star Wars fans celebrated Star Wars Day yesterday, proclaiming “May the Fourth be with you.” But if you didn’t get a chance to complete your movie marathon, or just want to have an excuse to play Battlefront, you’re in luck. Today is Revenge of the Fifth. The Sith Lords want their day!

Recently, the Yorkshire Museum in England issued a challenge. They asked museum curators around the world, to post images of their creepiest objects. Twitter was soon flooded with submissions, like a zombie blowfish, a sculpture of crab claws playing poker, a whale’s painted eardrum, and a 17th or 18th century plague mask. Strange stuff!

A bear in Italy, has finally been captured after 10 months. The bear, nicknamed Papillon, had escaped from the Trento Province nature park, back in July. He had to climb 4 fences, including one electric fence! He must not like it there, so they’re going to find him a home in a different European wildlife reserve.

Kevin Proscopio was missing his grandkids in Massachusetts, due to quarantine restrictions. He called them and told them to wait outside on the deck, for a special delivery. Then Papa Kevin delivered a box of donuts through the sky, with his drone! That was a safe, and delicious, visit!
