Tower of Fire

On this day in 1889, the Eiffel Tower, in Paris France, was completed. Celebrate Eiffel Tower Day, by eating French food, or building your own tower out of blocks or pillows. It’s also Bunsen Burner Day. It wouldn’t be a proper laboratory, without a vial of liquid, bubbling over the flame of a Bunsen burner!

Later Tater

Yay and hooray, it’s Tater Day! Have some baked potatoes and hash browns and potato dumplings and French fries and potato chips and home fries and sweet potatoes and tater tots and mashed potatoes! Then draw some spuds and color them in with crayons, for Crayon Day. Purple potatoes will be beautiful!

Safety First: Just Stay Home

A New York resident, took social distancing too far. Unwilling to ride in a subway car with other people, a masked rider caught a ride, by clinging to the outside of the train. The subway surfer endangered their own life, and distracted police from other important duties. Stay safe and stay home!

Address Not Found

A message in a bottle, washed up on the shores of Ireland last week. It had been launched from Germany, 19 years ago! The message said, “Greetings from Germany to the seaman who found this bottle!” Unfortunately, the included e-mail address was water-damaged, so the message sender still hasn’t received a response.

Giraffey Birthday

The Santa Barbara Zoo in California, welcomed a new baby last week. It was a giraffe calf! Mom Adia, and dad Michael, have a baby boy! His name is Twiga, which means giraffe in Swhili. Twiga weighed 125 pounds at birth and he’s 6 feet tall! Mom and her big baby are both doing well.

Thank You Doctors!

The best way to prevent the spread of coronavirus, is to stay home. But hospitals are packed with healthcare workers, doing their best to save people’s lives. Today is Doctors’ Day, so lets thank them even more than normal. Buy them a meal, by having a restaurant deliver food to your local hospital.

Today is Take A Walk In The Park Day! Count how many different birds you hear, and see what flowers are starting to bloom. It’s also Pencil Day, so bring along pencils and paper, and make a list, or sketch a picture. For anyone stuck inside, it’s Virtual Vacation Day. Explore with a VR-headset.

A 6-year-old boy in India, has broken the world record for speed drumming. Devaagyh Dixit used his drumsticks to play 5500 drum beats, in 3 minutes! He’s been playing drums since he was 2, but he doesn’t want to be a drummer when he grows up. Devaagyh wants to be a fighter pilot.

Most schools are closed due to the coronavirus, so some teachers have moved to teaching online. If your class is using Zoom, you can change your background. Just go to settings, click virtual background, and add any picture you want! You could choose the jungle, the beach, or your room when it was clean.
