Butter Cows and Butter People

Butter is made from milk, which comes from a cow. But sometimes, a cow is made from butter. The Illinois State Fair, unveiled its annual 800-pound butter sculpture, of a cow. The102nd Butter Cow is being milked by Butter Farmer Lorilee Shultz. A second sculpture features Lorilee’s granddaughter, Lucy, caring for a calf.

A Question Mark In Space

Was the James Webb Space Telescope, hijacked by The Riddler? A recent image captured by the telescope, clearly shows the curlicue and dot, of a question mark. It could be 2 distant galaxies interacting with each other, which can pull them into elongated shapes. We’ll leave this riddle, for the astronomers to figure out.

Tons of Tiny Tentacles

The oldest free-swimming jellyfish ever discovered, has been newly-identified by scientists. The Burgessomedusa phasmiformis, lived 500,000,000 years ago, and had a cube-like hood with 90 short tentacles. It was only about the size of a soccer ball, but likely had stinging venom to paralyze its prey. It was found in Great Britain’s Burgess Shale.

Today is Son’s And Daughter’s Day, which seems a little silly, because everyone was born as someone’s son or daughter! Any excuse to celebrate is welcome, so try to be the kind of kid that would make your parents proud. Let’s all be nice and helpful, and kind to each other!

Bring the Sand Indoors

Grab your buckets and shovels, because today is Play In The Sand Day. Make a sand castle at the beach, or a construction zone in the sandbox. If you’d rather stay home, you’re in luck. It’s also Global Kinetic Sand Day. The squeezable sand, was originally mixed with beeswax, to make it less messy.

A Tasty Toasty Record

891 people, set a world record in Texas. They all gathered together, to make s’mores at the same time. Solo Stoves supplied 500 tabletop firepits, for the S’moresapalooza. Graham crackers, chocolate bars, and lots of toasted marshmallows, made the event a delicious success.

Tired of Flying

A pigeon hitched an 80-mile ride, in a most unusual spot. It was caught behind the front grill of a car. A family thought they’d had a near miss with the bird, only to be alerted by a neighbor, there was a pigeon under their hood. Luckily, the pigeon will make a full recovery.

Your Hairdo Is Lovely

Today is World Lion Day. The “King of the Jungle” actually inhabits grasslands. A lion’s roar can be heard for 5 miles! They live in groups of about 15, called prides, with a male as the leader. The mane of hair around his neck gets darker with age. Lion populations are shrinking. Let’s save the lions!
